Tra Que Vegetable Village
A working organic farm village 3 km from the ancient town where visitors weed, plant, and harvest alongside farmers, then cook and eat what they've grown.
Overview
Tra Que is a 500-year-old organic farming village on a peninsula between the Thu Bon River and Tra Que Lake, 3 km north of the ancient town. The fertile alluvial soil and the lake water used for irrigation give Tra Que herbs — mint, basil, coriander, dill, spring onion — a flavour intensity that Hoi An's restaurants specifically seek out. Half-day experience packages let visitors rake, weed, water, and harvest alongside the farming families, followed by a cooking class using what's just been picked. It is one of the most grounded and genuinely engaging activities in the Hoi An area.
Half-day farm and cooking packages: approximately 300,000–500,000 VND per person. Bicycle from the ancient town takes about 15 minutes. Best visited in the morning — the light is better for photography and it's cooler for working the fields. Book ahead in high season (February–April, July–August).
