Bay Mau Coconut Forest
A flooded nipa palm forest navigated by circular basket boats — guides spin the coracles in dizzying pirouettes through the tangled waterways.
Overview
Bay Mau Coconut Forest (Rừng Dừa Bảy Mẫu) is a flooded nipa palm wetland near Cam Thanh village, about 3 km from Hoi An ancient town. The experience is built around the thung chai — traditional circular basket boats originally used by fishermen to check crab traps in the shallow, root-tangled waterways. Today guides paddle visitors through the palm tunnels and then perform: spinning the coracle in fast pirouettes, rocking it dramatically, and demonstrating the fishing techniques used in these waters for generations. It is genuinely fun and genuinely wet.
Tours typically 150,000–200,000 VND per person including the boat ride and a short fishing demonstration. Most last about 1 hour. Wear clothes you don't mind getting splashed. Easily combined with a morning at An Bang Beach on the same day — both are east of the ancient town.
