Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum
The preserved remains of Ho Chi Minh lie in a grand granite mausoleum on Ba Dinh Square, where independence was declared in 1945.
Overview
Ba Dinh Square is where Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence on 2 September 1945. Today the square is dominated by the mausoleum where his embalmed body lies in state, preserved under glass in a dimly lit chamber. Visits are solemn and tightly regulated: queue in silence, no hands in pockets, no photography inside. The surrounding complex includes the Ho Chi Minh Museum, his modest wooden stilt house and fish pond (a must-see), and the One Pillar Pagoda next door.
Located at 25 Hung Vuong, Ba Dinh. Free entry to the mausoleum; stilt house 40,000 VND. Open Tuesday–Sunday, 07:30–10:30 (times vary seasonally). The mausoleum closes for several months each year for maintenance — check ahead.
