Po Nagar Cham Towers

A 7th–12th century Hindu temple complex on a hilltop above the Cai River — one of the finest surviving Cham religious sites in southern Vietnam, still actively used for worship.

Overview

Po Nagar (Tháp Bà Ponagar) is the most significant Cham religious site in southern Vietnam — a complex of four towers on a granite hill above the mouth of the Cai River, built between the 7th and 12th centuries and dedicated to the Cham mother goddess Yang Po Inư Nagar. Unusually for a Vietnamese historical site, the towers are still actively used for worship: Vietnamese Buddhists, ethnic Cham Muslims, and Hindu devotees all come to pray at the altars inside, filling the incense-thick interior with offerings of flowers and fruit. The main tower, at 23 metres, is remarkably well preserved and contains a black stone statue of the goddess.

Entry approximately 22,000 VND. Open daily 06:00–18:00. Located 2 km north of the city centre on the north bank of the Cai River — 10 minutes by taxi or 20 minutes on a bicycle along the riverside road. Dress modestly (covered shoulders and knees). Best visited early morning before tour groups arrive.
