Ke Ga Lighthouse

Vietnam's oldest lighthouse, built by the French in 1897 on a small granite island — reached by a short boat ride, with sweeping views of the rocky coastline.

Overview

Ke Ga Lighthouse was built by the French colonial administration in 1897 and has been in continuous operation ever since — making it the oldest functional lighthouse in Vietnam. It stands on a small granite island 300 m offshore near Tan Thanh Commune, 32 km south of Phan Thiet, accessible by a short boat ride from the village pier. The lighthouse itself is a handsome 35-metre octagonal tower in yellow-painted brick. Climb the spiral staircase to the lantern room for a panoramic view of the rocky coastline, offshore reefs, and — on clear days — the distant mountains of the interior.

Boat from Ke Ga beach: approximately 30,000–50,000 VND return. Entry to the lighthouse: 10,000–20,000 VND. About 32 km south of Phan Thiet — 40 minutes by motorbike. Best visited in the afternoon when the western light catches the tower and the sea is calmer for the crossing. The surrounding reef is good for snorkelling.
