Long Son Pagoda

Nha Trang's most visited pagoda, famous for its enormous outdoor white Buddha statue on the hillside — a Guinness-recognised landmark with sweeping city and bay views.

Overview

Long Son Pagoda was founded in the late 19th century and rebuilt several times after storm damage, most recently in 1940. The pagoda itself is ornately decorated with mosaic dragons and guardian figures made from broken ceramic and glass. But the main draw is the great white Buddha statue on the hillside above — 14 metres tall, seated in the open air on a lotus throne, visible from much of the city. A staircase of 152 steps flanked by dragon balustrades leads to the base of the statue, where the views over Nha Trang and the bay are among the best free viewpoints in the city.

Free entry. Open daily 07:30–12:00, 13:30–17:30. Located at 22 23 Thang 10 Street, about 500 m from the train station. The climb to the Buddha takes about 10 minutes. Dress modestly inside the pagoda; the hilltop area is more relaxed. Best in the morning for light on the statue and cooler temperatures for the climb.
