Hanoi Train Street Guide 2026: Is It Still Open?

Hanoi Train Street is officially closed to the public — but cafe owners may still let visitors in through side entrances. Here is everything you need to know before you go.

What Is Hanoi Train Street?

Train Street is a narrow railway track that cuts through a residential neighborhood in central Hanoi. Twice a day (and more on weekends), a full-size train passes within inches of cafe tables and residential doorways. It became one of the most photographed spots in Vietnam before safety concerns led to official closures.

Is It Open in 2026?

The main entrances are barricaded and the street is officially closed. However, some cafe owners along the track allow access through alternative side routes — at their discretion. Always check recent reports before planning a visit.

Is It Worth Visiting?

Despite restrictions, Train Street remains a unique experience. Prioritize Street 2 on Le Duan for a more relaxed visit with fewer crowds. Arrive just before a scheduled train time and consume something at a cafe as a gesture of goodwill to the owners who allow access.
